Things you might need a building permit for:

  • Room additions or major home improvements & remodeling
  • Drywall, lath & plaster or siding
  • Demolition, site grading or yard drains
  • Foundations or footings for patio covers
  • Installing a new HVAC system (heating & air conditioning)
  • Roofing
  • Changing windows or doors on your home
  • Moving or adding walls in your home or business
  • Moving or addition plumbing, electrical or ducting
  • Removing asbestos or mold in your home
  • Change your water heater

 

Things you might NOT need a building permit for:
  • Paint your house, interior or exterior
  • Wall or stucco patching
  • Install landscaping
  • Change out a sink, garbage disposal, faucet or toilet
  • Install cabinets, desks, wall units or entertainment centers
  • Reface your cabinets
  • Change out interior doors or moldings
  • Scrape your ceilings (non asbestos)
  • Apply wall textures, wainscoting, chair railing or faux painting
  • Installation of tile or travertine on floors & counter tops (not showers)
  • Installations of low voltage items such as T.V. cable, Cat-5 computer cable, speaker wires, alarm wires, bell wires, thermostats or intercom systems. (if you are doing any demo or drilling through beams, consult a professional first)
