Blueboard and Veneer Plaster
Traditional drywall is currently the most
commonly used wallboard product in new homes. However, it
isn't ranked the most adored product among homeowners. Its
true that you can't beat the price, but ultimately you will
be dealing with long term inconveniences which include dents,
visible joints, popped screws and nails, and paint issues.
Blueboard and veneer plaster was created
to address the inconveniences associated with traditional
drywall. These products offer convenience and quality, as
well as a shortened installation time. However, the added
benefits of blueboard and veneer plaster do increase the
cost. However, it is often worth the extra expensive in
the end.
Blueboard is very similar to drywall. In
fact, it is made of some of the same materials such as gypsum
(calcium sulfate). Also, it comes in the same dimensions
as drywall, cuts with a knife, and fastens to wood or steal
in a similar fashion. However, blueboard significantly differs
from drywall in that the board's surface comes in a special
paper.
Blueboard's paper covering is exclusively
treated so that is bonds well with a skin coat of a uniquely
formulated plaster. Blueboard is finished by applying a
quick tape-and-plaster treatment to the joints. Last but
not least, the entire wall is coated with plaster. Extra
steps are needed when working with traditional drywall.
Also, the quality is not as great.
Veneer plaster is another alternative to
drywall. It is a much more durable product, which prevents
dents and scratches from damaging the surface. Also, the
top surface of veneer plaster is continuous over the entire
wall. This eliminates the worry of joints showing and creates
a better base for paints. In fact, a veneer plaster surface
is so smooth and continuous that many homeowners enjoy the
natural appeal of the product and refrain from giving it
a paint job.
In addition, veneer plaster can be installed
within one day, compared to drywall's typical three day
installation. Also, you do not have to bother with the mess
left behind from sanding surfaces because you do not have
to sand veneer plaster.
